DOMENICO FARINARO. Histoires de Parfums fragrances flagship shop. Milano, Italy. Concept design, developed design, technical design, project management, site supervision. The tiny space that houses the new Histoires de Parfums boutique is located in one of the most evocative places in Milan, in Corso Garibaldi, opposite the church of San Simpliciano. At the entrance, a black painted iron window from the 1950s recalls the Parisian atmosphere of the Marais, where the brand's other boutique is located.

The internal space is a single very narrow room, delimited by walls with a grooved surface lacquered in white. A high cut develops horizontally along the entire length of the shop, forming a niche with a gilded metal background and a luminous surface which displays a selection of the brand's perfumes. The grooved surface of the walls dematerialises them and generates a luminous vibration in the space, while accompanying the visitor inside the boutique.

The walls and the ceiling converge inclined towards the back of the shop in a perspective device that illusoryly increases the depth of the space: a clear reference to Palladio's Teatro Olimpico and to the perspective play of the apse of Santa Maria presso San Satiro's church by Bramante. Entering the boutique, the space is characterized by the white of the walls and ceiling, the golden metal background of the cut that runs along the walls and the black resin floor, a combination of sober and extremely classic colours.

Once inside, looking back towards the entrance of the shop, the aspect of the boutique changes completely: on one side of the shop, the interior of the displays becomes multicolored and each of these bright colors is associated with one of the fragrances of Histoires de Parfum. In fact, the physical transposition of one of the favorite quotes of Silvio Levi, the president of Calè, the company that distributes the Histoires de Parfum brand in Italy: “a perfume can transport you in an instant to wonderful places and stories”
